oh and also…

Forgive the formatting issues that this page has had the past month or so…I upgraded to a newer version of wordpress, and it broke some of my formatting. I finally comitted to fixing it last night.

It’s off to church for me…

long-needed update

Wow - it’s been a long time since I’ve updated. My bad. I guess the new house got the best of me. Things are going well, though. Work is starting to settle down - we had a barrage of new employees the past few weeks, which always makes things crazy. I haven’t been able to brew yet, which I’m sad about. I guess other things have been taking priority, which is fine…I just really want to get this Dark Raspberry Stout going :-)

Today was a productive day….I got our (second) dishwasher installed as well as a new disposal. If you remember, I installed another dishwasher about a month ago. Well that one was a Kenmore, and we were very unsatisfied with it. Even if we rinsed off most of the junk off of our plates before putting them in, it still left a ton of schmutz on the plates…so I decided to return it and get a Maytag. I ordered the new dishwasher last weekend, picked it up yesterday, and then got it installed today. The first load is currently just finishing up, so I’m excited to see how it performs. The main reason I got a Maytag is that we have one in our kitchen at work, and man, does that thing get abused. People don’t even think about rinsing before loading their dishes up into that thing, and I’ve never seen a dish come out dirty. So we’ll see how this goes.

I hope you all are well…I’m out.

Earth to Bill Gates: IE security flaws are YOUR FAULT!

See this recent discussion on slashdot: http://slashdot.org/

The latest from the oh-so-brilliant MS “Chief Software Architect” is that all of the security flaws in their Internet Explorer browser are due to installing third-party apps. Really? Is that so? Then why is it that when I (or anyone else) switches to an alternate browser, 99.9% of their spyware/adware/malware problems vanish into thin air? Coincidence? I think not.

new desk! finally!

We’ve now been in the house for a few weeks, and I finally got the time tonight to set up my new desk. I’m really happy about it. It’ll give me a place to dump my stuff and not pollute the rest of the house with my geekiness. You can see pics of the new desk (forgive the bad focus) and some other moving pics here.

Google’s at it again

For those who haven’t seen this yet, Google has yet again trumped MS. They released a project called Google Desktop. It’s a little app that runs on your desktop. The first time you run it, it indexes the contents of your hard drive and then allows you to search through them. They’ve integrated the search interface into their main webpage, so when you do a “normal” google search for something, it’ll inform you if there are any items stored on your local computer that match the search terms. I installed it about three hours ago, and it just finished indexing some 37,000 items. That includes mp3’s pictures, text documents, emails, etc. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to XP’s search interface again. I’ve only been using Google Desktop for a few hours, and it’s already very evident how much more superior it is than the weak attempt at a search Microsoft has in XP.

Give it a try…
