back to the grind

Well I guess it’s back to “normal” life for me today. We had an incredible weekend in Kansas City. I’ll write more later, as I need to get into work…in the meantime, you can check out pictures here:

Thanksgiving 2004

Quiet day…

As expected, today has been a very quiet day here at work. The only thing of substance I’ve had to do today was restore a few files from tape….and that took all of 2 minutes.

Tonight, I’m singing in the Thanksgiving Eve service at church, after which, I’ll head home to sleep, as we’re leaving for Kansas City early tomorrow morning - around 0400 hours. Both Meghan and I are greatly looking forward to the weekend - a bunch of friends/relatives will be gathering at the Dwyer household for a big Thanksgiving bash. The weekend will be filled with good food, good fun, and good fellowship. I can’t wait!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

The Bad Plus

w00t! I just checked out The Bad Plus’s website, and noticed that they’re going to be playing the Dakota December 27th-29th. I’m so there. I saw them play their tour kickoff concert at the Guthrie last spring, and man, were they amazing. If you haven’t heard TBP, you really ought to - they’re a jazz (sort of) trio, comprised of Dave King on drums, Reid Anderson on bass and Ethan Iverson on the piano. To call this music jazz isn’t exactly appropriate, though. It’s a mix of jazz, funk, rock, alternative, and the kitchen sink.

I’m going to be ordering tickets soon, so if any of you would like to come along, lemme know. They’re doing two shows each night…7:00 and 9:00. The 7:00 tickets are $35 and the 9:00 tickets are $30. I’ll probably go to one of the 9:00 shows.

Myth what?

Well I’m taking my first foray into the MythTV world today. I have an oldish (500 MHz) laptop with gentoo installed that I’m going to try it out on. For the time being, I’m only going to use the mythmusic and mythweather modules (and also a picture browser, if they have one), as I really have no need for PVR functionality. The laptop, a Dell CPx has an s-video out port, so I’m hoping I’ll be able to get myth to display on that so I can display it on my TV. If it all works out, I’ll purchase an IR reciever/remote and get lirc set up so I can control the tunez from the couch.

Wish me luck!

Musica Intima

I was recently introduced to this incredible ensemble by one of my co-workers. They’re a 12-voice choral chamber ensemble out of Vancouver, British Columbia, and they’re absolutely incredible. I’ve been listening to their Christmas CD, called Nativit? for the past week or so, and I’m blown away each time by their collective talent. All of the material they sing is completely a capella, and most (if not all) of it in the sacred genre.
