Subject: French motorist obeys GPS navigation, makes U-turn into traffic
A 78-year-old driver, on a 130 km/h road near Nancy, and not realizing the limitations of the navigation system, turned around when instructed to do so. He and the occupants of the car he collided with were, amazingly, unhurt. Police said this wasn’t the first such incident they’d experienced.
Honestly – if this 78 year-old person is careless enough to obey his nav system and do a U-turn on a major freeway, perhaps he should have his license revoked. Seriously – he has no right to be out on the roads. He’s lucky that no one got killed.
On a sidenote – if you haven’t already, I’d highly suggest you check out the comp.risks USENET group – especially if you’re of the….ehem….geek persuation. It’s a moderated digest list for the discussion of the risks of putting to much trust in technology, as well as the risks of insecure software development practices. If you don’t have access to a proper news server, you can read it on Google Groups.
Meghan and I had a great weekend at my parents’. Both Meghan and my Dad are working next weekend (that happens in the healthcare business), so we celebrated our family christmas this weekend. The time was enjoyed very much by all, and it was a great reminder to me of how much I appreciate my family.
Like I mentioned, Meghan’s working next weekend, so I’ll be a bachelor for most of the weekend. I’ll be out with the parents again for the day on Saturday, and I’m planning on brewing either Friday or Sunday. So…if you’re around for the weekend and have nothing to do, gimme a call.
As an aside, I just got a call from my mom, and it appers that both my brother and my dad have come down with the flu. Let’s hope I’ll avoid that after spending the weekend with them.
/me knocks on wood.
Update: Finally got pictures up here.
…is one of the simple pleasures in life.
Which is why we spent the evening yesterday making it!
Two years ago, my Grandparents gave Meghan and I a pair of lefse turners (see the pictures if you’re wondering what these are), a Bethany lefse griddle and a lefse-making lesson. So this is the third year that we have made lefse, and it has become a great tradition. Yes – it’s a bit messy (flour everywhere) and it’s a bit hot (working over a 450° griddle), but it’s completely worth it. All in all, we finished at 11:00 last night, and had 43 lefses in the freezer. We’ll be bringing some of them out to my family’s Christmas gathering this weekend, and I’ll be bringing some to my work Christmas potluck next wednesday.
See pictures here. You get to see pictures of me in an apron :-)
Edit…
I just made my first ever edit on Wikipedia. Check it here.
Today was good…I was up and at church for worship team rehearsal by 10:00, which went well, aside from the choir room piano desperately needing to be tuned, but that’s beside the point. After that, I returned home and decided that I was going to make chili. So I headed out to Target to pick up ingredients. I returned home and had the chili simmering within an hour. This batch was pretty much the same chili that I always make, which means that I don’t really use a recipe, and I throw in whatever looks good to me at that moment. A few weeks ago, I was chatting w/ Dan at work and he mentined that his wife adds bacon to their chili. I thought that sounded really good, so I threw in some bacon. When has bacon ever hurt anyone??? I also made some Corn Tomalito to go along with the chili. If you’ve never had Tomalito (they serve it at Chevy’s), you’re really missing out. Think warm, sweet, moist corn bread that you eat with a fork. Anyways, it turned out great and it complimented the chili very well. I also made homemade ginger ale today, which was a lot of fun. It turned out great – it had a light, refreshing taste. If I make it again, I’ll use a tad more honey to sweeten it up a bit.
So now I’m putzing on the computer, but I don’t really know why. I’m exhausted, and my call time at church tomorrow is 7:30. So maybe I should get to sleep, huh?
Peace out.
Meghan and I took the train down to hugedale tonight for the opening showing of Ocean’s 12. We had both loved the first installment, Oceans 11, so we were really excited to see the sequel. Well it didn’t dissapoint. The movie has a much different feel than the first, as it’s set in Europe, not Las Vegas. So for better or worse, it lost a lot of that “Sin City” sort-of glitz. Anyways, whatever was lost in the locale change was well made up for by a great story line that, while entertaining and attention-grabbing, didn’t paralyze your mind while trying to figure out what was going on. One similarity to Ocean’s 11 is that I left this movie feeling the desire to go out and steal something :-) They make it look so fun/easy!
So all in all, it’s a great movie, and I’d highly recommend it.
