Productive weekend!

Well we’re officially ready now to start the construction phase of our basement remodelling project. Friday night, my parents came up from Willmar, and Saturday morning, with their assistance, we finished the demolition downstairs! It looks so great – just an amazing transformation from the nasty cheap “finishing” job (if you can call it that) that was there before. I’ll have to take some pictures tomorrow and post them. So this week, I’m going to finish stripping out all the old electric wiring, as well as re-routing our water main. Once that’s done, we’ll have a clean slate to start construction in.

Today (Sunday), we went to church, came home, and promptly took a 2+ hour nap. It was really nice. After that, we hooked up a few flourescent lights in the basement so that we don’t need to keep using my portable halogen lights during the project. So that pretty much brings us up to now…we’ll be leaving in a few minutes to go out for supper with Joel and Heather.

Peace!

You saying “finishing” job reminds me… did they count that part of the basement as “finished sq ft” in the MLS? Because they shouldn’t have… (no finished wall)

It’s been unbelievable to me how many times in the course of house shopping the past few months (purely exploratory) where agents downright lied about finished basements.

Good luck with finishing yours — you’ve got a great space to work with down there… have fun with your clean slate!
