As most of you know, a month ago or so, MPR’s new station, The Current was launched. For several days, a few of us here at work were sitting on the edge of our seats in anticipation of what song they’d play first. Well much to my surprise, they chose a song by a local hip hop artist named Atmosphere. Well the band’s named Atmosphere. The song is the hidden track off of their Seven’s Travels CD, and it’s titled “Shh….”. Anyways, I’m typically not much for hip hop, but this song has really grabbed my attention. Throughout the song, he basically just extolls the virtues of living in Minnesota versus living on the coasts. So that’s that. I’ve really been enjoying this song (as well as many others that they’ve played) and thought I’d share it with you!
If you’d like to listen to the song, you can do so here. It’s a RealMedia stream of The Current’s first hour of broadcast. Enjoy!
Oh, click below if you’d like to read the lyrics of the song:

A new study out of Norway says that lobsters are unlikely to feel pain when they’re boiled…
That is all.
Another classic snippet from comp.risks (volume 23, issue 70):
Connecticut state emergency management officials said a worker entered the wrong code during the weekly test of the emergency alert system, leading television viewers and radio listeners to believe that the state was being evacuated: “Civil authorities have issued an immediate evacuation order for all of Connecticut, beginning at 2:10 p.m. and ending at 3:10 p.m.” The code that was mistakenly entered appeared on a monitor one line above the intended code for the test. As soon as the error was detected, faxes went out to every police department in the state.
Now I don’t care who you are…that’s funny.
This is Northern Brewer’s version of Bell’s Two Hearted Ale.

- 1 oz. Centennial (dry hop)
Yeast
Notes
- 2/11/05 – Made starter.
- 2/12/05 – Brewed. Brew session was fairly uneventful…well that is…until this little distraction. Pitched yeast around 2:30PM. Oxygenated for 20 seconds. Bigtime blowoff by 11:00PM
- 2/13/05 – Swapped blowoff tube for airlock. Airlock is still bubbling around twice a second. The room it’s sitting in is about 68°, and the fermentation has kept itself around 74° since last night. I closed the vent in that room to cool things down a bit, as I don’t want any off-flavors from high-temp. As a sidenote, the entire upper level of my house smells like Centennial hops. I love it!
- 3/11/05 – Transferred to secondary. Gravity: 1.014.
- 4/14/05 – Bottled. FG 1.014. Tastes great so far, so it can only get better as it carbonates/conditions.
- 4/22/05 – Wow. First bottle cracked. It’s only been in the bottle a little over a week, so it’s a bit under-carbed, but I’ll say it again…wow. This is set up to be, perhaps, the single best batch of homebrew I’ve made up till this point. I’ll be making this again…soon.
I guess that means I don’t have to work for the next two days. Well that’s not entirely true…as I’ll probably end up working on getting the new cvs server for work set up over the weekend, but that’s okay. I have a few fun plans for the weekend…tomorrow, I’ll be heading over to Clint’s place for a dual-brewing session. I’ll be brewing a Two-Hearted Ale clone, which I’m extremely excited about, and Clint will be racking his Mild Ale to secondary, brewing NB’s India Pale Ale, and then racking that on top of the Mild Ale yeast cake. I’m looking forward to seeing the fireworks that happen there :-). After brewing, I’ll be heading over to Tim’s place for some BF1942, Unreal Tournament 2004, and Halo2. Ahh…the sweet sound of the rocket launcher :-)
Sunday, I don’t have much planned other than going to our annual meeting at church. Since I’m officially a member now, I suppose I should go, huh? Actually, they’re interesting to go to, and I’m looking forward to it.
