War Deaths…

Check out this guy’s recent post on the NB forums regarding the war deaths for the last 4 years in Iraq…interesting stuff.

Like him, in no way am I trying to minimize or rationalize the deaths that have happened. It’s a damned shame that anyone has to die in a war…especially a dubious one such as what we’re in now, but it’s sure something to think about.

That is an interesting perspective.. There are so many controls in place when in a war environment (risk assessments before every mission, even a requirement for ground guides when backing up a vehicle, not that you would die because of that), that this significantly minimizes the possibility for accidents.

However, unfortunately the numbers are not that simple, because what would be really telling is what the total number of casualties (injury and death) are compared to the average number of permanent injuries and death you could get in the US. My guess is the number goes up quite a bit, though maybe just enough to be slightly more. Either way, it is telling that there are very, very few deaths relative to the number of servicemembers over there.
