Brian Benson

Some of you may know my friend and co-worker Mark Benson. Mark’s brother, Brian, was involved in a bad motorcycle accident on Tuesday this week, and has been in the ICU at HCMC since then. The long and the short of it is that he broke both of his legs badly, and has been through several surgeries to try and re-construct them. If you’re interested, Mark’s posting regular updates on his site, here. Please pray for Brian, his wife Jill, and the rest of the family.

Captive Proxy

‘lo all. Things have been quite busy around here…hence the lack of updates. Work has been insanely busy due mostly to post-merger integration stuff…trying to (gracefully) integrate two completely different networks isn’t an easy thing to say the least…

One of the things I need to do soon is implement some sort of captive proxy/authentication system for our wireless VLAN. I’ve never implemented something like this before, so it’s gonna take a bit of research and tinkering. If y’all have recommendations on how to accomplish this, I’m all ears. Extra points if it can authenticate against either OpenLDAP or Active Directory :-) I’ve researched the NoCatAuth project, which seems to be the most mature out there, but I’m not sure it’s exactly what I’m looking for. Another possibility is to use m0n0wall, which comes w/ a built-in captive proxy. That would be very easy to set up and maintain, but may not be as flexible as we want in the future. I dunno. Maybe if I just click my heels together it’ll just happen…

War Deaths…

Check out this guy’s recent post on the NB forums regarding the war deaths for the last 4 years in Iraq…interesting stuff.

Like him, in no way am I trying to minimize or rationalize the deaths that have happened. It’s a damned shame that anyone has to die in a war…especially a dubious one such as what we’re in now, but it’s sure something to think about.

SunRocket is live

Well our (previously) PSTN number was successfully ported over to our VoIP provider tonight, which meant I had to get the house phone system wired up to the VoIP box. Well, after 30 minutes of dust, improvised fish tape, staple guns, and wire ties, I got ‘er all hooked up. So now we have unlimited local and long distance calls for ~17 bones/month. Not bad.

/me goes off to sleep. ‘night all.
