new digicam on the way…
Last night, I ordered a new DSLR, and I’m incredibly excited about it. It’s the 6.1mp Nikon D70 (not D70s, mind you). I ordered it with two lenses, a Nikkor 28-100mm Zoom and a Nikkor 70-300mm Zoom. There are a few reasons why I chose the D70 over the D70s model. The only difference between the two models is that the D70 has a 1.8″ screen and the D70s has a 2″ screen. Because of this, the D70 is a fair amount cheaper than the “s” model. Also, Nikkon has released a few firmware updates for the D70 that improve autofocus function. For some reason, none of these updates have been released for the D70s model.
The camera should arrive (hopefully) mid next week. I’ll look forward to posting my first batch of pictures!
You dog. That’s my dream camera. Did you get a decent price? Where did you order it from?
Wow, very nice! I’m looking for a replacement as well, but one it’s more important features will be how small it is… Something like the Canon Powershot D400 or something — I don’t know enough about photography to merit a nicer camera anyway. :)

I have a ~3 year old Canon Powershot S110. It’s a 2.1 mp. We’ve really liked it, and it still takes great pictures. I was just feeling limited by the lack of zoom and finer-grained control of the camera. I’d highly recommend Canon’s PowerShot line.
Even though you’ve gone to the dark side (I’m a Canon fan), I’m sure you’ll be very happy with it. Going from a P&S to SLR feels like going from a toy to a real camera when you’re trying to take pictures.
