Our webserver at work went unresponsive a few minutes ago, and I thought I was going to need to reboot the thing, which would have been a shame:

I know that’s not the longest uptime ever, but it’s not too shabby. You just hate to reboot once you’ve gotten up that high.
I ended up just having to plug into the console and restart the network stack. Things came back up fine after that. I’ll have to grep through the logs now to see what really happened.
My boss likes to (sarcastically) joke with me about how I’m always rebooting our linux servers to fix things…I’m glad that I didn’t have to reboot this time. It would have given him more ammo to use against me :-)
Well I’ve just been deemed Executive Chef of team Wocka Wocka Wocka! for the 24 Hours of Afton race this weekend. Team Wocka Wocka Wocka! is comprised of three of my co-workers and one of their friends. The race starts at 5:00 on friday night and goes through the night till 5:00 saturday evening.
For the race, I’ll be in charge of keeping the team fed…Mr. Anderson will be my Sous Chef for the event.

I’d seriously like to know what in the world Robertson was thinking when he suggested that the US State Department “off” Chavez. It’s fine for him to think that privately, but why would he even think about saying that on a nationally-televised TV program? Did he even think about the repercussions this would have on the view of Christianity in our country? It really angers me.

…for the uninitiated, that is the September calendar from 1752. Notice that there are a few missing days :-)
No, the GNU “cal” program doesn’t have a bug in it. September 1752 was when Great Britain replaced the Julian calendar with the Gregorian calendar. When that transition occurred, there was an eleven-day offset between the two calendars, so “officially”, the date skipped from September 2nd to the 14th.
I thought that was interesting…
Today was a bad, bad day for Merck. They lost the first of many (4000+) lawsuits filed against them. These suits allege that their arthritis painkiller Vioxx caused fatal cardiac side-affects. I have no doubt that they’ll try and appeal the ruling, but this really doesn’t bode well for them. The precedent has now been set for the ~4000 cases coming down the chute. Details here.
