Our new shiny D70 camera arrived yesterday…and as you’d expect, I spent the whole evening playing :-).
Here are the firstfruits of the new camera. Nothing special – just a few shots I took around the house. We happened to be watching Ella last night, so she got to be in several of the pictures.
I may have to move to Seattle for this one.[1]

This weekend, Meghan and I made a quick trip down to Chicago (well Elmhurst actually). Meghan’s sister Gretchen will be leaving this week for 2 years to be a short-term missionary in Turkey. This weekend was her commissioning service at her home church. It was a great time of fellowship with the family, though it was quite hard to say goodbye to Gretch for two years. If any of you are interested in getting on her email list for updates, please let me know and I’ll add you to the list.

Last night, I ordered a new DSLR, and I’m incredibly excited about it. It’s the 6.1mp Nikon D70 (not D70s, mind you). I ordered it with two lenses, a Nikkor 28-100mm Zoom and a Nikkor 70-300mm Zoom. There are a few reasons why I chose the D70 over the D70s model. The only difference between the two models is that the D70 has a 1.8″ screen and the D70s has a 2″ screen. Because of this, the D70 is a fair amount cheaper than the “s” model. Also, Nikkon has released a few firmware updates for the D70 that improve autofocus function. For some reason, none of these updates have been released for the D70s model.
The camera should arrive (hopefully) mid next week. I’ll look forward to posting my first batch of pictures!
