Human Depravity

If there was ever any solid evidence of human depravity, the looting in New Orleans is it. I am so angered by the selfish thieves who are taking advantage of this horrible tragedy. As if the devastation and flooding of their property was not enough…now shopkeepers will return to their empty stores which have fallen victim to the looters.

This morning, shots were fired at one of the helicopters as it was evacuating a load of people from the Superdome, causing a temporary pause in the evacuations. What fool would do this? Ugh – it angers me to no end.

Very sad. Here’s a quote from an article on MSNBC that gives an even more horrifying picture of human depravity:

“Tempers were beginning to flare in the aftermath of the storm. Police said a man fatally shot his sister in the head over a bag of ice in Hattiesburg, Miss.”

Frickin’ a. That’s all I have to say about that.

I say who cares about the property, as so much is already ruined and insurance and/or federal moneys will hopefully cover those losses. They’re just possessions that have no intrinsic value outside of what we place upon them. Forget about TVs and VCRs and computers. Who cares?!

What I can’t fathom — at all — is why someone would take this opportunity to behave like God, by taking their rifle, acting as a sniper, and targeting a hospital evacuation (as published by CNN.com)? Seriously, that is just sick. What prompts a person to do that?
