Home improvement big-box mania

Mmmkay - so since we’ve moved into our place here in Blaine (1.5 yrs ago), I’ve always said that the number of big box home improvement stores nearby is ridiculous. Well apparently there weren’t enough. By next summer, there will be an additional Lowes and Home Depot. Here’s what the tally will be after those two are open…these are all within a 5 minute drive from my house.
Lowes - 2
Home Depot - 3
Menards - 2

Are they all really necessary? There have already been reports of sales at HD slowing…one could argue that this is due to the calming housing market. If I were a betting man, I’d be willing to put a fairly healthy wager on the fact that several of these home improvement megastores won’t be around in 10 years.
They’re definitely not all necessary, but a rise in interset rates will benefit them. If people aren’t able to buy and sell their homes as easily, the next best thing is to apgrade what you already have. If interest rates keep creeping up, I think we’re going to see a boom in home improvement, additions, and that sort of thing.

Clint makes a good point.. I know I’ll be doing that in a year.. Okay, so I’ll both be buying and improving in a year..
Speaking of, how’s the remodeling project coming? Has Bjorn (rightfully) taken the attention? :)
Yah - you guys have a point…I hadn’t though about it from that angle.
The remodel is coming along slowly…there was a period of several months after Bjorn was born that I didn’t touch it. I recently had it taped and mudded, though, and just had an egress window installed last week, so I’m ready to finish ‘er up.
