Asterisk

I’ve been given clearance to pursue implementation of Asterisk at work as an (eventual) replacement for our legacy phone PBX.  I’ve already implemented Asterisk at 3 branch offices around the country and 1 across the pond - these have largely been successful.  Implementing here at HQ, though, will be a different beast.

Wish me luck!

  1. Good luck, Erik! I’m intrigued by Asterisk, so I’ll be interested to hear how it goes. I was actually into phones and phone hacking before I got into computers.

  2. Thanks! It’s all quite intriguing to me as well. After years of struggling and getting frustrated by proprietary legacy PBXs, it was an amazing breath of fresh air to start getting into asterisk. The level of functionality and the ease of interaction with other applications is really staggering when compared to what you’d have to pay Nortel/Lucent/etc for similar functionality on their systems.

I was chatting today with our web applications guy at work about asterisk. We were just giddy at the possibility of being able to tie together our Customer Relationship Management software with Asterisk.

We envisioned doing such cool things as running a hourly script that would go through the asterisk call logs, matching outbound calls with phone numbers that are already in our CRM system. When a match is found, it would automatically log the call in CRM for future reference. The salesperson could then elect to go in and record the call details if they’d wish.
