Fireworks at Lake Florida

Last night, one of my parents’ neighbors treated our side of the lake to a private fireworks display. Since I’d never really made an honest effort in the past to take fireworks photos, I figured this was a good chance to give it a try. I’m pretty happy with the results:

Michael Manring + Hyperbass

Michael Manring. Ever heard of him? Check this video - he plays a Zon Hyperbass. This isn’t your normal bass guitar. The hyperbass has a cam/lever system on the four tuning mechanisms in the headstock that allow the player to flip a lever mid-song and drop that string’s tuning anywhere from a half step to a fifth. There’s also a de-tuning mechanism in the bridge that allows the bassist to change the strings’ tunings from that end of the guitar as well.

Enjoy.

Minneathlon v2.0

As some of you know, I’ve been on the planning committee for the Minneathlon v2.0 race that takes place today at Logic. In a nutshell, the Minneathlon is an adventure race/scavenger hunt type event. This year’s theme is “Brains vs. Brawn”, a nod to the fact that the race will include both physical challenges as well as a healthy dose of challenges to work the teams’ thinkers.

We’ve been planning this race for about a month now, and I’m quite excited that race day is here. Start time is at 8:30. If you’re interested in following along, we’ve set up real-time GPS tracking of all the teams. All of the race clues will also be posted as the race progresses (only after each team has successfully solved the clue, though). We’ll be out taking pictures along the race route, and I’ll be sure to post those after the race.

Bjorn, “reading” a letter he received from Gramma Ruth

Bjorn received a letter last week from his Gammer (Grandma) Ruth. Meghan read the letter to him a few times following its receipt. A few days later, she discovered him reading it to himself. Very cute.

Time for a few Bjorn videos

The first two videos are from last night. Bjorn and Meghan had made their weekly trip to the library and had returned with a stack of exciting new books. Bjorn wanted to read a few of them to me:

Meghan sang Andrew Lloyd Weber’s “Pie Jesu” last weekend at her sister’s wedding. As such, she’s been rehearsing the song quite a bit around the house. Apparently Bjorn heard it a few times:
