A dad’s allowed to brag, right?

April 23rd, 2007

Bjorn isn’t even 17 months old yet, and he already knows how to say “Excuse Me” after burping or performing other noisy bodily functions. We have the best son ever.  :-)

That is all.

Call it a late New Year’s resolution

March 10th, 2007

Both Meghan and I have realized recently that we’ve been tending to spend time in the evenings on our computers instead of doing more intellectually-stimulating activities like, say, reading. We’ve agreed with each other that we’ll try to encourage each other to spend time with our respective noses in books instead of browsing teh intarweb. So…following in the footsteps of Mr. Anderson and Ms. Bergstrom, and as a way to keep myself accountable to this goal, I’ve decided to make a list of what I read during 2007. I’ve started a separate page for the list. It’s available here:

On this day, 27 years ago…

September 11th, 2006

A little Erik was born :-)

Then, 5 years ago, some jerks decided to hijack my day. Pfft. Some people’s kids.

You can find a list of other interesting things that happened on September 11th on wikipedia. Some items of note are:

  • 1708 – Charles XII of Sweden stops outside Smolensk heading to the south, culminating in the disastrous battle of Poltava, the end of Sweden as a major power.
  • 1918 – Baseball: The Boston Red Sox won the World Series; they would not do so again until October 27, 2004 after 86 years.
  • 1941 – Ground broken for the construction of The Pentagon.
  • 1970 – The Ford Pinto is introduced.
  • 1981 – The Pee-wee Herman Show airs as a special on HBO.
  • 1990 – President George H. W. Bush delivers a nationally televised speech in which he threatens the use of force to remove Iraqi soldiers from Kuwait, which Iraq had recently invaded.

Hop Harvest 2006

August 31st, 2006

I harvested my Northern Brewer hops last night. The yield was quite good being that they’re only in their 2nd year of growth.

Me and the bines:

This is about a third of the total harvest from the two NB plants:
One-third of the total harvest

I got some help from Meghan and Bjorn as well!

The hops are now resting peacefully in my shed. They’ll be there for the next few days or until they’re dry. After that , I’ll pack ‘em into freezer bags and into the deep freeze they go.

More pics

August 22nd, 2006

Okay – at the risk of this becoming a “cute pics of the boy” blog, here are a few more recent ones:

Bjorn in the grass
Yes…he officially has two front teeth now :-)

Almost crawling...
He’s been on the cusp of crawling for a week or so now…
